Salaries return to boom year levels for digital and events professionals
United Kingdom
- Digital marketers and events specialists see pay rise to 2007 levels
- Renewed appetite for events professionals as the market turns
Businesses significantly increased their marketing recruitment activity during quarter two, according to the latest Market Update from recruitment specialist Robert Walters.
There was a marked increase in events roles coming to market as corporate entertaining became more important and companies looked to generate more business. Pay for these positions increased to levels not seen since 2007, with senior events staff receiving £250-300 per day in quarter two compared to £200-250 in quarter one.
Digital marketers became sought-after across all sectors as businesses looked to expand into emerging channels and connect with increasingly digital-savvy audience. Employers particularly sought search-engine optimisation, e-commerce and customer experience skills for these roles. Demand for internal communications specialists also increased as this again became an important area for businesses.
Toby Fowlston, Director of Robert Walters’ Sales and Marketing recruitment division, comments:
“The number of marketing jobs available increased compared to quarter one, which was a positive sign given that marketing budgets were some of the first to be cut during the recession. Marketers were generally realistic in their salary expectations when looking to move jobs however some key in-demand positions did see significant rises. ”
