Senior Finance Operations Officer

Our client is seeking a Senior Finance Operations Officer to join their dynamic team in Wellington. This role offers an exciting opportunity to be part of a thriving organisation that values its people and their communities. As the Senior Finance Operations Officer, you will play a crucial role in supporting key financial activities, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and integrity. You will have the chance to work with a wide range of internal and external customers, review the work of other team members, and contribute to business improvement initiatives.

What you'll do:
As the Senior Finance Operations Officer, your day-to-day responsibilities will involve managing complex aspects of finance operations-related functions. You will take charge of ensuring the accuracy, validity, and timeliness of payments, allocation of receipts, and review of vendor and customer accounts. Your role will also involve interacting with a wide range of internal and external customers while reviewing the work of other team members.

  • Process and manage accounts payable transactions, ensuring timely and accurate payments to vendors.
  • Administer the Purchasing Card & Cash Expense function in line with company policy and procedures.
  • Manage the accounts receivable process, ensuring timely and accurate invoicing and collections.
  • Perform daily bank reconciliations and resolve any discrepancies.
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts and ensure accuracy of financial data.
  • Complete month end and year end accounting tasks in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Ensure tax compliance for suppliers and claimants.
  • Review work completed by team members for accuracy, compliance, and adherence to policies.
  • Provide guidance and support to team members for efficient resolution of issues.
  • Identify process and system exceptions and escalate anomalies as required.

What you bring:
The ideal candidate for the Senior Finance Operations Officer position brings extensive experience in finance operations. You are proficient with numerical data, have a fundamental understanding of accounting principles, practices, and possess strong attention to detail. Your interpersonal skills allow you to relate well with a wide range of people. You are always on the lookout for continuous improvement opportunities, particularly in the use of technology to automate and improve processes. Your analytical skills enable you to analyse data to gain insights and offer solutions to problems. You demonstrate strong planning and organisational abilities, capable of meeting deadlines under pressure.

  • Experience in finance operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, financial accounting, reconciliations, and tax compliance.
  • Proficiency with numerical data.
  • Fundamental understanding of accounting principles and practices.
  • Ability to coach and mentor others.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Interpersonal skills with ability to relate to a wide range of people.
  • Look for continuous improvement opportunities in particular use of technology to automate processes.
  • Analytical skills with ability to analyse data to gain insights.
  • Self-management including the ability to manage own time.
  • Proven ability to operate within a challenging information technology environment.
