Senior Financial Controller

Kordia, a leader in New Zealand’s telecommunications and technology sector, is seeking a Senior Financial Controller to take full ownership of its multi-entity financial control function. This is a strategic and hands-on role where you’ll be accountable for shaping the financial control environment, ensuring compliance, accurate reporting. You’ll lead with confidence, take ownership, foster a high-performing team culture, and drive continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities:

  • Own the day-to-day leadership of the finance team, setting clear objectives and supporting development through coaching and mentoring.
  • Lead from the front- provide leadership, coaching, mentoring, feedback, and direction to the team, whilst creating a positive and engaging work environment that motivates team members to perform their best.
  • Lead financial close processes across multiple entities, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with NZ IFRS and statutory requirements.
  • Prepare consolidated financial reports and provide insights that support confident decision-making at executive and board levels.
  • Take accountability for audit and tax compliance, acting as the key liaison with auditors, regulators, and tax authorities.
  • Oversee treasury operations including cashflow, banking relationships, FX/interest rate hedging, and credit exposure.
  • Champion process improvement and automation initiatives that enhance efficiency and reduce close cycles.
  • Ensure robust internal controls and governance frameworks are embedded across the organisation.
  • Partner with the FinOps Team Lead to ensure billing, fixed assets, and project finance processes are accurate and aligned with contractual obligations.

What you bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field, and CA, CPA, CIMA or equivalent qualification.
  • 10+ years’ experience in senior finance roles including financial planning and analysis, commercial finance, or related disciplines, preferably gained within telecommunications, broadcasting, technology or related industries (or similar).
  • Proven success leading finance teams and driving accountability across financial operations and reporting.
  • Deep understanding of NZ IFRS, statutory reporting, and the Companies Act.
  • Ability to interpret financial results and provide insights that support decision-making at CFO, Board and Audit & Risk Committee level.
  • Strong audit and tax compliance experience, with a track record of clean outcomes and proactive risk management.
  • Advanced Excel and ERP systems capability, with a passion for automation and data-driven reporting- including Power BI.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to present insights clearly and build trusted relationships.
