Systems & Financial Accountant

A leading retail business is seeking a Systems and Financial Accountant to join their Auckland head office. This role bridges finance and technology, focusing on data accuracy, systems optimisation, and strong reporting processes. You’ll work closely with Finance, IT, Operations and Retail, driving improvements and supporting a culture of collaboration and continuous learning.

What you’ll do

• Optimise financial systems and reporting processes alongside Finance, IT, Operations and Retail.
• Contribute to automation initiatives to improve accuracy, workflow efficiency and BI reporting.
• Support monthly and annual financial reporting, ensuring controlled and accurate data.
• Assist with month-end, year-end and statutory reporting (NZ IFRS).
• Support internal and external audits by supplying required information.
• Monitor data integrity and highlight system or control improvements.
• Work with IS/IT on system upgrades, patches, enhancements and new capabilities.
• Assist with planning, testing and rollout for system implementation projects.
• Deliver adhoc financial and systems analysis using Excel and BI tools.

What you bring

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or similar.
• CA/CPA qualified or working towards it.
• 2–3 years’ experience in financial or management accounting.
• Advanced Excel skills; exposure to Power BI an advantage.
• SQL experience for data extraction and analysis.
• Bonus: Python/Jupyter Notebook for process automation.
• Strong systems mindset and excellent attention to detail.
• Clear communication skills and ability to work across multiple teams.
• A continuous improvement approach and the ability to turn business needs into practical system solutions.
