A leading Auckland organisation is seeking a Senior Financial Planning Analyst to join their respected Finance team. This role offers the opportunity to shape financial strategy, drive performance, and mentor others in a supportive environment. With a focus on professional growth, flexible working, and impactful analysis, this is a chance to advance your career with an employer committed to development and work-life balance. Perfect for those passionate about making a meaningful impact!

What you'll do:

As a Senior Financial Planning Analyst, you will be entrusted with leading the financial planning cycle for designated business units. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve collaborating with stakeholders across the organisation to deliver insightful analysis that shapes strategic direction. You will leverage advanced modelling techniques to support decision-making, automate reporting processes for greater efficiency, and contribute to long-term planning efforts. Success in this position requires not only technical expertise but also strong interpersonal abilities as you build trusted relationships with colleagues at all levels.

  • Lead budgeting and forecasting cycles for assigned business units, ensuring accuracy and timeliness throughout each phase.
  • Perform comprehensive variance and trend analysis to identify performance drivers and inform strategic recommendations.
  • Develop sophisticated financial models that support business decisions and enable scenario planning for future growth.
  • Partner closely with business leaders to provide actionable financial insights that drive operational improvements and strategic alignment.
  • Automate and optimise reporting processes to enhance efficiency, reduce manual effort, and improve data quality.
  • Support long-term planning initiatives by conducting scenario analyses that anticipate market changes and organisational needs.
  • Contribute actively to process improvement projects aimed at elevating the overall capability of the finance function.

What you bring:

To excel as a Senior Financial Planning Analyst in Auckland, your background should reflect substantial experience managing complex financial planning processes within sizeable organisations. Your analytical acumen will be complemented by advanced technical skills particularly in Excel modelling and familiarity with modern FP&A platforms. Beyond technical expertise, your success will hinge on your ability to foster collaborative relationships across departments, communicate clearly with both finance professionals and non-finance stakeholders, and maintain a customer-centric approach at all times. You will bring proven experience navigating fast-changing environments where adaptability is key; your commitment to personal development ensures you remain up-to-date with industry trends. A genuine interest in mentoring others will help strengthen team capability while your attention to detail supports high standards of accuracy throughout every aspect of your work.

  • Demonstrated experience in financial planning and strategic analysis within complex organisations
  • Proven track record of leading budgeting and forecasting cycles independently while delivering accurate results under tight deadlines.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel including macros and complex modelling techniques essential for robust financial analysis.
  • Expertise in FP&A tools and enterprise systems such as Power BI or Tableau for data analytics and visualisation purposes.
  • Strong understanding of operational drivers as well as financial metrics relevant to large-scale commercial environments.
  • Experience participating in transformation or system enhancement projects would be advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Customer-focused mindset dedicated to meeting internal stakeholder requirements through effective relationship management.
