Senior Analyst
A Crown owned agency is seeking a Senior Analyst to join its Monitoring and Crown Ownership group. This is a newly created role offering the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to financial sustainability and performance.
What you'll do:
As a Senior Analyst Monitoring and Crown Ownership, you will play an integral role in supporting the financial sustainability of institutions within this Crown owned organisation's stewardship. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve reviewing both financial and non-financial information, engaging directly with key stakeholders, preparing advice for senior leaders, and contributing to sector-wide improvements. You will be expected to use established monitoring frameworks to analyse data, identify risks, summarise findings for various audiences, and collaborate with colleagues across multiple teams. Success in this role requires not only technical proficiency but also strong interpersonal skills; you will need to communicate complex information clearly, build relationships with institutional representatives, and foster a culture of continuous improvement. By leveraging your analytical mindset and collaborative approach, you will help ensure public confidence in the sector while driving positive change through evidence-based recommendations.
- Undertake financial monitoring using established processes and tools to identify risks and support long-term sustainability of institutions.
- Review and summarise non-financial reporting such as council sub-committee papers to provide holistic analysis of institutional performance.
- Monitor progress against financial improvement initiatives and investment projects, ensuring alignment with sector goals.
- Engage proactively with institutions regarding their performance and the outcomes of financial viability assessments, fostering open communication and trust.
- Prepare internal and external briefings on the financial performance of relevant institutions, including responses to Official Information Act requests and parliamentary questions.
- Apply critical thinking to assess key risks and emerging issues at both institutional and sector levels, contributing valuable insights for decision-making.
- Support continuous improvement activities within the monitoring function by identifying opportunities for process enhancement and greater effectiveness.
- Collaborate across the Monitoring and Crown Ownership group as well as wider organisational teams to ensure comprehensive oversight of complex entities.
- Integrate structured and unstructured financial information into clear recommendations for stakeholders, helping drive improved performance across the sector.
What you bring:
To excel as a Senior Analyst, you will bring proven experience in analysing financial statements and management accounts within large organisations or regulated sectors. Your ability to interpret key drivers of performance—both quantitative and qualitative—will be essential as you prepare advice for senior leaders. You should possess advanced analytical skills complemented by an inquisitive mindset that allows you to integrate complex information from multiple sources. Collaboration is central; your interpersonal strengths will help you work effectively across teams while engaging constructively with stakeholders from diverse backgrounds. Ideally, you hold CA or CPA membership which underscores your commitment to professional excellence. Your capacity for clear communication, empathy in stakeholder interactions, and dedication to continuous improvement is very important. Your warm approach will foster trust among colleagues while your attention to detail ensures robust analysis that supports organisational goals.
- Hands-on experience working with both structured and unstructured financial information to conduct thorough analysis and make informed decisions that support organisational objectives.
- A deep understanding of financial monitoring frameworks that enables you to evaluate institutional performance effectively within a complex regulatory environment.
- Ability to analyse multifaceted problems by integrating diverse sources of information with an inquisitive mindset that seeks out underlying trends or risks.
- Proven track record of working collaboratively across teams or groups within large organisations or systems when monitoring complex entities.
- Membership in CA or CPA (preferred), demonstrating commitment to professional standards in accounting or finance.
- Excellent written communication skills for preparing concise briefings tailored to internal stakeholders or external audiences such as Ministers or Boards.
- Strong interpersonal skills that enable you to engage constructively with institutional representatives while building trustful relationships.
