Manager Strategic Finance
A large Government organisation are seeking an experienced finance leader to drive enterprise‑wide financial planning, forecasting and performance insights. In this role, you will provide strategic financial advice to senior leaders, lead medium to long‑term financial planning, and ensure robust budgeting, forecasting and performance monitoring that supports evidence‑based decision‑making and long‑term financial sustainability.
This is a senior, hands‑on finance leadership role with a strong strategic focus and significant impact across the organisation.
What you’ll do
- Lead enterprise financial planning, forecasting and performance monitoring processes
- Provide high‑quality financial analysis and strategic advice to senior leadership and governance committees
- Manage Budget Estimates of Appropriations, baseline updates and supplementary estimates for Vote Internal Affairs
- Maintain and reconcile Vote baselines, including managing fiscal adjustments and transfers
- Monitor long‑term cash position, financial risks and debt‑related processes
- Deliver enterprise performance reporting and financial insights to support business cases, budget initiatives and fees reviews
- Build and maintain long‑term financial models, scenarios and trend analysis
- Lead responses to Treasury and central agency information requests
- Drive continuous improvement of forecasting, budgeting tools and financial systems
About you
You are a senior finance professional with strong experience leading enterprise‑level financial planning, forecasting and performance reporting in a complex organisation. You bring a strategic mindset, sound judgement and the ability to translate financial insight into clear, actionable advice for senior leaders.
You will also bring:
- Proven experience leading high‑performing finance or FP&A teams
- Strong capability in medium‑ to long‑term forecasting and financial modelling
- Deep understanding of public sector financial planning, performance monitoring and appropriation processes
- Experience managing budgets, estimates processes and baseline adjustments
- Confidence advising and constructively challenging senior stakeholders
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- A proactive, improvement‑focused approach to financial systems, tools and processes
- A relevant professional qualification (e.g. CAANZ or equivalent)
