Finance Operations – Senior Customer Billing Specialist

What you'll do:

  • Deliver all aspects of customer billing functions with precision, ensuring revenue recognition is optimised and payment or debt risks are minimised through best practice service delivery.
  • Act as a subject matter expert across systemised and manual billing activities for both domestic and international customers, providing guidance on solution design, investigations, quality assurance, and internal controls.
  • Serve as the first point of contact and escalation for complex billing queries from internal and external stakeholders via electronic communication and telephone.
  • Lead the implementation of customer billing improvement initiatives by analysing operational data, identifying areas for process enhancement, and driving compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Provide detailed operational reporting to management teams, offering insights that support resource optimisation and performance improvements across the business unit.
  • Support workflow management by coaching team members towards achieving key performance indicators while fostering capability uplift within the team.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including credit control, sales, product pricing, group finance, risk/audit teams, external customers, auditors, service providers, and outsourced partners.
  • Champion continuous improvement by identifying opportunities for simplification of processes that increase compliance and improve overall customer satisfaction.
  • Participate in strategic projects such as systems enhancements or upgrades that add value to the business and align with broader organisational goals.
  • Model high standards of professionalism in all communications while upholding the organisation’s values around inclusivity, respectfulness, safety, and teamwork.

What you bring:

Your background as a Senior Customer Billing Specialist means you bring proven experience navigating complex financial operations within large organisations. You have developed deep expertise in customer billing systems—both automated and manual—and understand how these processes underpin effective revenue management

  • A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience gained within large or complex organisations provides you with the foundational knowledge required for this role.
  • At least three years’ operational experience in customer billing environments equips you with practical understanding of systems, processes, and best practices.
  • Demonstrated expertise in process improvement—particularly changes involving people, processes or systems—enables you to identify efficiencies that benefit both customers and the business.
  • Proven ability to manage operational risk within internal control frameworks ensures compliance with industry regulations while safeguarding organisational interests.
  • Advanced problem-solving skills using data analysis methods allow you to resolve issues quickly and effectively.
  • Exceptional communication abilities—both written and verbal—enable you to interact professionally with stakeholders at all levels inside and outside the organisation.
  • Experience supporting workflow management by coaching peers towards shared goals demonstrates your commitment to collective success.
  • A track record of participating in cross-functional projects (such as system enhancements or customisations) shows your adaptability in dynamic environments.
  • Ability to break down complex challenges into actionable steps ensures tactical delivery even under tight deadlines.
