Tatauranga Aotearoa Stats NZ, as data stewards and leaders of the data eco-system proactively protect and enhance the provision of good quality data in order to realise the value of data.

Stats NZ is led by the Chief Executive who is also the Government Statistician and Chief Data Steward.

About the role:

The Head of Commercial is an integral part of the Finance team, reporting into the Chief Financial Officer and is responsible for providing internal functional leadership regarding Stats NZ commercial management capability. Responsible for performing duties associated with the management of property and procurement, and other large contractual agreements across the organisation. Stats NZ maintains a portfolio of leasehold properties across New Zealand with an office presence in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch, including two large co-tenanted properties.

The role of Head of Commercial is responsible for the strategic and operational management of Stats NZ properties from maintenance program implementation, managing the Annual Property Budget and responsible for implementing the co-location agreements with the co-tenants. The role is also responsible for the implementation and maintenance of Stats NZ’s best practise procurement policy across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead Stats NZ’s Commercial Management team (including Property and Procurement)
• Develop a property management plan for long term property needs across the country.
• Develop and manage Annual Property Operating Budgets
• Represent Stats NZ at meetings covering co-tenanting arrangements
• Identifying and recommending potential office premises and lease negotiations with owners/agents.
• Implement best practise procurement policy and systems across Stats NZ.
• Develop and implement effective procurement processes and procedures to ensure that the needs of the business are managed in accordance with Stats NZ governance framework.
• Manage the development and implementation of category management strategies to optimise Stats NZ procurement spend.
• Contribute to and actively promote Stats NZ purpose and strategy, understanding the link to your role and supporting the business to achieve their goals.
• Actively seek out opportunities to influence and shape the content of strategy at organisation and Group level.
• Set the framework for and contribute towards the design and implementation of continuous improvement to systems, technology, processes, and procedures to transform delivery of services.
• Develop and maintain an understanding of the implications of the Treaty of Waitangi for your position and facilitate understanding for others.

Key Requirements:

• Completion of qualifications relevant to the position including certificate, diploma or associate degree in property management/procurement.
• At least 10 years of relevant experience in a similar property management and/or procurement role (preferably with experience of both).
• Strong leadership experience (10yrs) and management background – ability to coach and develop your team.
• Demonstrated experience with commercial leasing and negotiation experience will be preferred.
• Have a sound understanding of Financial Management Information Systems.
• Be intellectually, analytically, and conceptually agile and experienced in dealing with complex matters.
• Proven ability to manage across all levels in an organisation and maintain strong working relationships.
• Demonstrated experience engaging with a broad cross-section of stakeholders with varying or competing interests in and priorities for a property portfolio.
• Commercially minded and pragmatic approach to property management and leasing
