Learning Designer

Shape the future of vocational learning in Aotearoa

You’ll contribute to meeting accreditation and quality assurance requirements, work closely with subject matter experts and stakeholders, and support the responsible use of emerging technologies — including AI — in learning design and development.

This is an opportunity to work at the intersection of learning design, digital delivery, and quality assurance in a regulated education environment. You’ll play a key role in developing engaging, accessible, and compliant learning and assessment experiences, while supporting innovation and continuous improvement.

What you’ll be doing

  • Designing and developing digital learning resources using Articulate Rise 360, including microlearning, interactive content, reusable block templates and SCORM‑ready packages
  • Building, testing and optimising learning and assessment experiences within Totara LMS, including course configuration, learner pathways, assessments, completions and reporting
  • Applying pedagogical and andragogical best practice across face‑to‑face, workplace and distance learning environments
  • Embedding Universal Design for Learning (UDL), accessibility and inclusive design principles in all learning and assessment resources
  • Ensuring digital resources align with WCAG 2.2 standards, literacy and numeracy expectations, equity commitments and culturally responsive practice
  • Using AI tools responsibly to support learning analysis, content drafting, assessment design, media generation and workflow efficiency, with strong human oversight
  • Collaborating with subject matter experts, internal stakeholders and external contractors
  • Reviewing externally developed learning resources and contributing to quality assurance and moderation activity
  • Supporting innovation initiatives, special projects and cross‑functional work
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, NZQA requirements, privacy obligations and health & safety standards

You’ll bring:

  • Extensive hands‑on experience using Articulate Rise 360 to design responsive digital learning
  • Experience configuring or working within Totara LMS, including digital assessments, learner pathways and reporting
  • Minimum 5+ years’ experience in instructional or learning design within an educational environment
  • Strong understanding of adult learning (andragogy) and best‑practice learning design strategies
  • Proven experience designing both digital and print learning materials
  • Demonstrated capability using AI tools in learning design workflows, with sound judgement around quality, privacy and accuracy
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A collaborative, detail‑focused and self‑directed working style

Ideally, you’ll also have:

  • Knowledge of the New Zealand Qualifications Framework (NZQF) and work‑based learning
  • Experience in the vocational or education sector
  • Familiarity with TEC Literacy and Numeracy Learning Progressions
  • Project management or policy development experience
  • Cultural capability, including understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and comfort engaging with tikanga Māori

Why join us?

  • Make a meaningful contribution to vocational education and workforce development
  • Work on nationally significant education programmes
  • Be part of a collaborative, values‑driven organisation
  • Enjoy a role that blends hands‑on design, strategic thinking, quality assurance and innovation
  • Help shape inclusive, accessible and future‑focused learning experiences
