Save job

We are seeking an experienced Senior Product Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support the delivery and operational readiness of a large‑scale Real‑Time Network Performance Monitoring solution within a major transport operations environment.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Product Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support the delivery and operational readiness of a large‑scale Real‑Time Network Performance Monitoring solution within a major transport operations environment.

This role sits at the intersection of technology, operations, and product ownership, contributing to a high‑profile programme focused on improving network performance, reliability, and real‑time decision‑making across a complex, multi‑agency transport ecosystem.

About the Role

In this position, you will act as the key SME bridging technology teams, operational control centres, and business stakeholders. You’ll ensure the solution is fit‑for‑purpose, aligned to operational needs, and ready for successful deployment and BAU transition.

You will contribute across the full lifecycle — from requirements and design reviews through to UAT, go‑live support, risk management, and training coordination.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the senior SME for a real‑time performance monitoring solution.
  • Provide expert input to ensure technology outcomes meet operational and business objectives.
  • Participate in requirements reviews, POC assessments, design conversations, and solution validation.
  • Support and coordinate User Acceptance Testing (UAT).
  • Contribute to go‑live planning, change impacts, and operational readiness activities.
  • Work closely with readiness and change teams to ensure training, documentation, and adoption plans are in place.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships across multiple stakeholder groups.
  • Identify risks early and support mitigation strategies.

About You

You bring a blend of operational understanding, product ownership capability, and the ability to work confidently in complex environments.

You will have:

  • 5+ years’ experience in product ownership, business analysis, operations technology, ITS, or similar SME‑level roles.
  • Experience working with real‑time operational or monitoring systems.
  • Strong relationship management and communication skills across varied stakeholder levels.
  • High organisational competency and an ability to operate across multiple workstreams.
  • A tertiary qualification in Business, Commerce, Project Management, or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of transport operations, traffic systems, or real‑time control environments is advantageous.

Why This Opportunity?

  • A chance to directly influence real‑time operational performance across a major network.
  • Work within a significant transformation programme with national‑level visibility.
  • A long‑term contract with attractive rates.
  • Opportunity to shape BAU product ownership foundations for a core operational technology platform.

If you’re a senior SME who thrives where technology meets real‑time operations, we’d love to hear from you. Apply now or contact alexandra.gosling@robertwalters.co.nz for a confidential chat.
