Senior Geospatial Analyst

Save job

This role is perfect for someone with a strong technical background in geospatial tools who thrives in an environment where teamwork and stakeholder engagement are at the forefront. You will be instrumental in supporting key geospatial initiatives, particularly those focused on asset management, and your expertise will directly contribute to impactful projects that shape operational outcomes.

What you'll do:

As a Geospatial Analyst on this six-month contract in Wellington, you will immerse yourself in a variety of engaging projects that require both technical proficiency and excellent interpersonal skills. Your day-to-day activities will involve working closely with different teams to understand their unique challenges and providing actionable insights through sophisticated mapping solutions. By utilising industry-standard tools such as ArcGIS Online, ESRI Suite, and FME, you will analyse complex datasets to inform decision-making processes related to asset management. Your ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels will ensure that project requirements are clearly understood and met. In addition to technical tasks like data validation and integration, you will play a vital role in documenting procedures and sharing knowledge within the team. Success in this role hinges on your attention to detail, collaborative spirit, and commitment to delivering high-quality results that support the organisation’s broader objectives.

What you bring:

To excel as a Geospatial Analyst in this contract role based in Wellington, you will bring substantial experience working with spatial data across multiple platforms. Your background should include extensive use of ArcGIS Online for mapping applications as well as familiarity with the ESRI Suite’s capabilities for more advanced analyses. Experience with FME is also crucial for managing complex data transformations efficiently. Beyond technical skills, your success will depend on your ability to engage constructively with stakeholders from various backgrounds—translating their needs into practical solutions while fostering an atmosphere of trust and mutual respect. Your communication style should be clear yet approachable so that both technical peers and non-specialists can benefit from your insights. A keen eye for detail is essential when validating or integrating datasets; mistakes at this stage can have far-reaching consequences. Finally, your willingness to share knowledge openly within the team will help create an environment where everyone feels supported in reaching common goals.

  • Demonstrated experience as a Geospatial Analyst or in a similar capacity where geospatial data analysis was central to your responsibilities over several years.
  • Proficiency in using ArcGIS Online for creating interactive maps, managing spatial data layers, and performing spatial analysis tasks relevant to business operations.
  • Hands-on expertise with the ESRI Suite of products for advanced mapping solutions as well as FME for efficient data transformation and integration workflows.
  • Comprehensive understanding of asset management principles within a geospatial context including how spatial information supports infrastructure planning or maintenance.
  • Exceptional stakeholder engagement abilities enabling you to build rapport quickly across diverse teams while gathering requirements or presenting findings clearly.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills allowing you to document methodologies thoroughly and explain technical concepts accessibly to varied audiences.
  • A proven track record of working collaboratively within cross-functional teams where cooperation was essential for achieving shared project goals.
  • Meticulous attention to detail ensuring accuracy in all aspects of data handling from validation through transformation to final reporting stages.
  • Eligibility for full-time work in New Zealand without restrictions is required for this contract position.
