SharePoint Technical Specialist

Save job

This role is perfect for someone who thrives at the intersection of information, technology, and public trust, and who is passionate about enabling effective, secure operations. You will play a pivotal part in ensuring that business systems and information management platforms are not only robust and compliant but also user-friendly and future-focused.

What you'll do:

As SharePoint Technical Specialist, you will be instrumental in supporting the smooth operation of critical business systems. Your days will be filled with opportunities to collaborate with diverse stakeholders, deliver impactful training sessions, and provide expert guidance on SharePoint Online-based solutions. You will work proactively to identify areas for improvement in information management practices while ensuring all activities meet strict compliance standards. By staying abreast of technological advancements like Microsoft Copilot, you will help drive innovation in how ministerial teams manage their information. Your ability to build trusted relationships will be key as you offer tailored support that empowers users at every level. This is an ideal role for someone who enjoys variety in their workday—balancing technical problem-solving with people-focused advisory tasks—and who takes pride in contributing to the effective functioning of New Zealand’s democratic institutions.

What you bring:

To excel as SharePoint Technical Specialist, you will bring substantial experience working with SharePoint Online administration alongside deep familiarity with Microsoft 365 collaboration tools. Your background may include supporting large-scale digital transformation projects or implementing new business systems within highly regulated sectors. You are adept at translating technical concepts into accessible language for non-specialist users—whether through one-on-one coaching or group training sessions. Your interpersonal skills enable you to foster trust quickly; colleagues value your considerate approach when navigating sensitive compliance matters or introducing change. You have a keen eye for detail when it comes to legislative requirements but balance this with a pragmatic mindset focused on finding workable solutions. Above all else, your passion for supporting others shines through in everything you do—from troubleshooting urgent issues to championing best practice across teams.

  • Demonstrated experience administering SharePoint Online environments including site creation, maintenance, permissions management, Lists configuration, and workflow automation.
  • Practical knowledge of Microsoft 365 tools—especially Microsoft Teams—with exposure to AI-driven features such as Copilot considered advantageous.
  • Sound understanding of core information management principles gained ideally within the New Zealand public sector or similar regulated environments.
  • Familiarity with relevant legislation governing records management (e.g., Public Records Act 2005) and associated compliance standards.
  • Confidence in delivering training sessions and developing user-friendly guidance materials for audiences with varying levels of technical proficiency.
  • Proven ability to build rapport quickly with stakeholders from diverse backgrounds through empathetic communication and collaborative problem-solving.
  • A customer-centred approach focused on delivering high-quality outcomes while maintaining rigorous attention to detail around compliance and risk mitigation.
  • Strong analytical skills enabling you to translate complex business needs into practical system enhancements or process improvements.
  • Commitment to continuous learning—keeping up-to-date with emerging technologies in digital collaboration or information management.
