IT Project Manager - Contract

Are you an experienced IT Project Manager looking for your next challenge? We are seeking a highly skilled contractor to lead a transformative 12-month project based in Christchurch. This is an exciting opportunity to work on a high-impact initiative that will drive significant improvements in operational efficiency and service delivery. About the role: This role involves leading a major redesign project aimed at addressing inefficiencies within a critical infrastructure environment. You will be responsible for managing all aspects of the project lifecycle, including initiation, planning, execution, monitoring, and closure. The project requires someone with strong analytical skills, governance expertise, and the ability to manage risks and engage senior stakeholders effectively. This is an onsite role requiring presence at the Christchurch campus five days per week. Free parking is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead projects using established frameworks to ensure delivery within scope, timeframes, and budget constraints.
  • Identify and mitigate risks while escalating issues through appropriate channels when necessary.
  • Build strong relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure smooth project execution.
  • Provide regular updates to senior leadership and ensure adherence to governance processes.
  • Ensure seamless operational handover upon project completion.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the project management framework.

What we're looking for:

We’re seeking a results-driven professional who can bring expertise in IT project management along with strong leadership skills to deliver this critical initiative successfully.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Minimum 10 years of industry experience (e.g., Engineering, IT, Construction), including 5 years in project management roles.
  • Advanced knowledge of project management methodologies (PMBOK preferred).
  • Strong analytical and diagnostic skills with proven ability in root cause analysis and structured decision-making processes.
  • Proficiency in governance frameworks and project artefacts tailored to scale and complexity.
  • Expertise in risk identification, assessment, tracking, escalation, and resolution through appropriate channels.
  • Exceptional upward management skills to engage senior stakeholders effectively and facilitate strategic decision-making processes.

Desirable Skills & Attributes:

  • Postgraduate university degree or equivalent experience.
  • PMP accreditation or similar professional project management qualification.
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills with demonstrated influencing capabilities.
  • Strong commercial acumen with a focus on creating value while managing costs effectively.
  • Ability to communicate clearly across diverse audiences while building long-term relationships with stakeholders.
  • Resilience under pressure with a proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement initiatives.
