An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Solicitor or Senior Solicitor to join a leading Legal 500 ranked national employment team. This is a chance to work in a team led by a Partner who cares about the people in their team, encourages open communication, and provides a supportive environment for growth and learning. The team works together to achieve the best outcomes for their clients, looking out for each other along the way.

What you'll do:

You will be a trusted adviser to numerous employers in both the public and private sectors. You will partner with your clients to support them throughout the employment lifecycle. Your position will involve handling the full breadth of employment law issues with a good balance across contentious and non-contentious matters.

  • Drafting clear, plain English HR policies, employment agreements and contractor arrangements
  • Performance management
  • Disciplinary investigations and dismissals
  • Enforcing restraints of trade
  • Personal grievances and disputes
  • Restructuring and redundancy
  • Industrial relations, unions, and collective bargaining
  • Remuneration and employee incentive schemes
  • Health and safety
  • Immigration law
  • Privacy and data protection
  • Employment aspects of corporate transactions
  • Investigations, including conduct and culture, disciplinary matters, health and safety, fraud, whistle-blower complaints, and white-collar crime
  • Appearing as counsel in mediations and before the Employment Relations Authority, the Employment Court and the appellate courts

This role is full-time but flexible work options will be considered, including part-time.

What you bring:

  • 3-6 years’ post-admission experience with some acquired in employment law
  • Strong advocacy skills
  • A practical and commercial approach
  • Thrive on problem-solving and have a friendly professional style
  • A current New Zealand practicing certificate or eligibility to obtain one
