We are working with a New Zealand owned financial institution to appoint their next lawyer in Wellington. The environment is fast-paced and is characterised by a flat structure where building relationships, taking initiative, and maintaining an awareness of risk are crucial.

About this role | Mō tēnei tūranga mahi
The incoming lawyer will play a key role in supporting the financial institution’s initiatives and projects, particularly in relation to managing legal and regulatory risk. You will get exposure to a breadth of matters including but not limited to; regulatory matters, contract negotiations, marketing signoffs, privacy matters, reviewing training modules and policies, preparing board reports, and providing pragmatic legal advice to the organisation.
There will be excellent support and collaboration in the position, and you will also be empowered to develop by giving things a go, working independently and forming your own view. It will be important that you are aware of your limits, and you are able to identify when to escalate issues too.
What you will bring | Ngā pūmanawatanga ōu
- 3-7 years’ post-admission experience acquired as a practising lawyer in-house or in private practice
- Able to demonstrate a genuine interest in the industry – while banking/financial services experience would be advantageous, it is not essential
- Proactive and values focused
- Excellent relationship management skills
- Eligible to obtain a New Zealand practising certificate
