Junior Legal Counsel

What you'll do:
- Provide comprehensive legal support across various business functions by assisting with contract drafting, negotiation, and review to ensure compliance with relevant laws and internal policies.
- Conduct thorough legal research on regulatory issues, industry standards, and legislative changes to inform decision-making processes and mitigate potential risks.
- Support senior legal counsel in managing external legal relationships, including liaising with law firms and regulatory bodies as required.
- Contribute to risk management initiatives by identifying potential areas of exposure and recommending practical solutions to minimise impact on business operations.
- Prepare clear and concise reports, presentations, and correspondence for both internal stakeholders and external partners.
- Help coordinate responses to regulatory inquiries or audits by gathering relevant documentation and ensuring accurate submissions within specified timeframes.
What you bring:
- A Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree or equivalent qualification recognised in New Zealand.
- Admission as a Barrister & Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand or eligibility for admission is essential for fulfilling core duties.
- Demonstrated experience (including internships or clerkships) in commercial law or corporate environments will be highly regarded for this role.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are necessary for preparing clear reports, contracts, and correspondence tailored to diverse audiences.
- Strong analytical abilities are important for interpreting legislation, assessing risks, and providing practical recommendations aligned with organisational goals.
- High attention to detail is crucial when reviewing documents or managing confidential information related to sensitive business matters.
