We are working with a New Zealand owned financial institution to appoint their next lawyer in Wellington – this will be a cross-functional role where you will provide legal governance advice as well as taking ownership of company secretary responsibilities.

We welcome applications from former lawyers who are currently in governance and company secretarial roles and want to return to legal practice alongside governance responsibilities. Alternatively, we are also open to considering lawyers who have worked in relevant areas, such as financial services or corporate law and have acquired some governance skills as part of those roles.

The environment is welcoming, values driven and fast-paced so being organised, managing relationships and taking initiative is crucial.

You will also assist the Head of Legal and the wider Legal team to provide legal advice with a focus on corporate governance related matters such as AGMs, and updates to policies.

There will be excellent support and collaboration in the position, and you will also be empowered to develop by giving things a go, working independently and forming your own view. It will be important that you are aware of your limits, and you are able to identify when to escalate issues.

  • You will either have worked as a company secretary or in a governance role, or have acquired the necessary skills to do the role from working as a lawyer in financial services or corporate law
