We are working with an organisation at the forefront of climate change and environmental issues, who is growing their in-house legal team across the country. This organisation is looking for candidates across New Zealand, successful candidates can be based in the South Island, Wellington, or Auckland. This organisation's in-house team works on advising internal bodies and government agencies on public and environmental law matters with particular focus on policy and legislative development. The role requires understanding of resource management, public law, and a strong understanding of the Treaty of Waitangi and Tikanga Māori.
Provide public and environmental legal advice internally and externally, including advising on policy and regulatory work related to climate change and resource management;
Identify legal risks and issues within the organisation and work on mitigating these risks;
Incorporate te ao Māori (Māori worldview) in your work, demonstrating an understanding and respect for Māori culture and tikanga;
Mentoring and coaching of other solicitors in the team.
To be successful in this role you must:
Solid background in resource management and public law;
4+ PQE in resource management and public law however all applications will be assessed on merit;
Strong understanding of the Environment Act 1986;
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills;
Ability to work collaboratively in a team across different locations.
