Principle Advisor - Project Risk

Our client is seeking a Principal Advisor - Project Risk to join their Urban Development and Delivery (UDD) team in Auckland. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the transformation of New Zealand's housing sector, making a real and positive impact on people's lives. The successful candidate will be part of a high-performing, collaborative team, providing risk management and advisory services to support project delivery and outcomes. This role requires a strategic thinker with a strong understanding of project risk and experience in large infrastructure or Building and Construction projects is preferred.

What you'll do:

As the Principal Advisor - Project Risk, you will play a pivotal role in managing risk within our client's Urban Development and Delivery department. The role responsibilities will include:

• Operate a high-quality and informed Risk Management System within the Urban Development and Delivery (UDD) department
• Provide risk advisory services across Large Scale Projects and Complex projects
• Develop and operationalise a consistent approach for escalating, managing and monitoring strategic and operational risks at the project level within UDD
• Proactively support the lifting of risk management maturity in UDD and significant projects
• Ensure all significant project risks are actively managed, reported and escalated as required
• Conduct Risk Workshops across UDD to lift the skill level of Project Delivery and Commercial teams to enhance risk management
• Review of all Quantitative Risk Assessments (QRA) prepared by Advisor - Risk and Project teams for Business cases and on-going reviews
• Provide sound risk management advice to assist project delivery and performance, ensuring opportunities for improvement are identified and achieved by leadership on risk management
• Champion and responsible for ensuring the use of Active Risk Management (ARM) system across all UDD projects, through training, monitoring and demonstrating value to project delivery

What you bring:

• Tertiary qualification or relevant work experience in risk management or related field
• Ability to establish credibility and manage relationships with managers and teams both internally and externally
• Working understanding of project risk
• A working understanding of international risk management frameworks and standards (such as ISO31000:2018) and established good practices is preferred
• Relevant risk management experience around large infrastructure or construction projects
• Sound technical risk management skills as a risk management practitioner
• Experience functioning as a member of highly-skilled, high performing risk management teams in multi-faceted environments
• Interest in the New Zealand housing, residential and property development sectors
