Senior Manager - Risk

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced people manager to lead a second-line risk advisory team within a dynamic organisation. This role is instrumental in strengthening risk management frameworks, enhancing operational risk practices, and fostering a strong risk culture. The successful candidate will provide strategic guidance, support senior leadership, and contribute to key risk initiatives at both a local and broader organisational level.

What You'll Do

You will be responsible for promoting the effective application of risk management frameworks and best practices across the organisation. Your insights will help enhance risk maturity, strengthen decision-making, and ensure a proactive approach to managing risk. You'll provide guidance and oversight, monitoring the implementation of risk policies to ensure consistency and effectiveness. In addition, you'll support a strong risk culture by offering commercial advice that aligns with broader business objectives. You may also take on subject matter expertise in specific operational risk areas.

  • Lead, develop, and mentor a high-performing risk advisory team, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee the implementation and embedment of risk frameworks, policies, and procedures across the organisation.
  • Provide expert guidance and support to first-line risk functions and senior stakeholders, ensuring alignment with risk management objectives.
  • Drive initiatives to enhance risk culture and operational risk management, promoting a balanced approach to risk-taking.
  • Recruit, coach, and retain top talent in the risk function, ensuring capability growth and professional development.
  • Monitor and assess enterprise-level risk management activities, providing insights and recommendations to senior leadership.

Experience Needed

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in people leadership within financial services, consultancy, or a corporate environment. You will possess excellent problem-solving skills, the ability to engage and influence senior stakeholders, and a proactive mindset.

  • Extensive experience (10+ years) in risk management within financial services or professional consultancy.
  • Strong leadership capabilities, with demonstrated experience in managing, coaching, and developing risk professionals.
  • Proven ability to build and lead high-performing teams, fostering collaboration and driving engagement.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence senior leadership on risk-related matters.
  • Experience driving risk culture and operational risk initiatives at an enterprise level.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in business, commerce, law, digital technology, or related fields.
