Senior Commercial Development Manager

New Zealand Rugby Commercial is seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior Commercial Development Manager to join their team. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a dedicated team that is integral to the success of New Zealand Rugby. The successful candidate will have the chance to grow and develop commercial partnerships, identify new revenue opportunities, spearhead various commercial programs, and lead a team towards achieving strategic goals. This role is based in Auckland, offering the chance to work in one of the world's most liveable cities.

What you'll do:

As Senior Commercial Development Manager, you will play a pivotal role in driving the growth of New Zealand Rugby Commercial’s (NZRC’s) commercial revenue programme. You will be responsible for identifying and securing new offshore and local commercial partnerships as well as developing new and innovative commercial inventory. Your commercial development experience will be crucial in managing relationships with third-party suppliers and agencies, ensuring that NZRC maintains its premium brand experience. You will also lead the transformation of various programs including Travel, Hospitality and premium entertainment experiences. Your ability to negotiate joint ventures with delivery partners in key markets will be essential in optimising long-term revenue. Your leadership skills will be put to good use as you manage four direct reports - Ticketing Manager, Ticketing Coordinator, All Blacks Clinics: Programme Manager, and Rugby Delivery Manager.

  • Drive strong growth in revenues from the strategic management of NZRC’s commercial assets
  • Lead and govern the rights architecture across Match Day Ticketing and Hospitality, Off-Shore Matches, Venue and Signage, Fan Travel Programs, All Blacks Clinics and other commercial assets
  • Lead relationships with third party suppliers and agencies to ensure NZRC creates a premium experience
  • Work with the sales team to package, price and sell inventory across commercial programs
  • Lead the ticketing team with the responsibility to grow revenues from Domestic Match Days
  • Lead and transform the All Blacks Travel and Hospitality programmes to become a premium entertainment experience, growing hospitality revenues
  • Optimize long term revenue by negotiating joint ventures with delivery partners in key markets
  • Lead NZRC’s long term match strategy planning for teams in black to participate in international and domestic fixtures in key geographical markets
  • Governance of the physical and virtual signage programs to optimise long term revenue through strategic packaging and pricing of inventory
  • Continuously identify and shape the creation of new commercial assets to grow revenue and innovation across the NZRC commercial program

What you bring:

The ideal candidate for the Senior Commercial Development Manager role will bring a wealth of international commercial development experience, preferably within a top-tier sports rights holder, or similar organisation.
You will have over 10 years' experience in commercial partnerships and business development with a proven track record of commercial success. Your broad experience working on negotiations in an international environment with large brands will be invaluable in this role. Additionally, your leadership skills will be put to good use as you manage a team of direct reports.

  • Proven international commercial development experience, ideally with a top-tier sports rights holder, or within the sporting or entertainment industries
  • Over 10 years’ experience in commercial management with demonstrated commercial acumen
  • Broad experience working on negotiations in an international sporting environment with multi-national brands
  • Exposure and involvement selling tickets and/or premium experiences working alongside advertising and marketing agencies in Sport
  • Experience with proven leadership skills managing teams of four or more direct reports
