Senior Platform Engineer

Save job

We’re partnering with a leading organisation in the financial services sector to find an experienced Senior Platform Engineer to join their Containers Platform team on an initial 6-month contract. This is an opportunity to work across enterprise Kubernetes environments, helping to maintain secure, resilient, and highly available platforms that enable hundreds of engineers to build and deploy applications.

You'll play a key role in platform reliability, automation, security, and continuous improvement, while working alongside experienced engineers in a collaborative environment.

As a Senior Platform Engineer, you'll be responsible for operating, maintaining, and continuously improving container platforms across AWS, Azure, and on-premises environments.

You'll combine strong hands-on technical capability with a proactive approach to platform engineering, helping reduce operational complexity and improve the experience for development teams.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Administer and support Kubernetes platforms across AWS (EKS), Azure (AKS), and on-premises OpenShift environments.
  • Perform Kubernetes upgrades, patching, vulnerability remediation, and platform maintenance.
  • Monitor platform health, performance, capacity, and availability, proactively identifying potential issues.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex platform incidents and production issues.
  • Support engineering teams with technical guidance and platform-related challenges.
  • Improve automation and operational tooling to reduce manual effort and increase efficiency.
  • Contribute to platform resilience, operational readiness, and service reliability initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, standards, and operational procedures.
  • Collaborate with security, infrastructure, architecture, and engineering teams.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify platform operations and continuously improve service delivery.

What You'll Bring:

We're looking for someone with strong hands-on experience in platform engineering, infrastructure, or Kubernetes operations, ideally within a complex enterprise environment.

You'll bring experience across several of the following:

  • Strong Kubernetes administration, operations, and troubleshooting experience.
  • Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS and/or Azure.
  • Solid Linux administration and infrastructure fundamentals.
  • Container technologies, including Docker and OCI containers.
  • Monitoring, observability, and production support practices.
  • Infrastructure as Code and configuration management.
  • CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation.
  • Networking, security, and infrastructure troubleshooting.
  • Scripting and automation using Bash, Python, Go, or similar.
  • Incident management and supporting business-critical production environments.

Nice to have:

  • GitOps tooling such as Argo CD, Helm, or Kustomize.
  • Experience working within platform engineering teams.
  • Vulnerability management and security remediation.
  • VMware and virtualisation technologies.
  • Experience within financial services or other highly regulated environments.

We are looking for someone who takes ownership, enjoys solving complex technical problems, and takes pride in building reliable platforms.

You'll be comfortable balancing planned engineering work with operational priorities, working collaboratively across technical teams, and providing guidance to others.

Above all, you'll have a continuous improvement mindset and enjoy finding smarter ways to automate, simplify, and improve the platforms that engineering teams rely on.

What's on Offer?

  • Initial 6-month contract opportunity.
  • Work within a large, enterprise-scale technology environment.
  • Exposure to AWS, Azure, Kubernetes, and OpenShift.
  • A collaborative team focused on automation and continuous improvement.
  • Flexible start and finish times

If you're a hands-on Senior Platform Engineer looking for your next contract and enjoy working at the intersection of cloud, Kubernetes, and platform reliability, we'd love to hear from you.
