Senior Legal Counsel

What you'll do:

• Provide timely and practical legal advice on data privacy, competition law, consumer law, commercial contracts, and related regulatory matters to support business objectives.
• Draft, review, and negotiate a wide variety of customer contracts including online terms, master service agreements, confidentiality agreements, IT agreements, licenses, consultancy agreements, alliances, and joint ventures.
• Collaborate directly with the General Counsel A/NZ as well as other key stakeholders across the business to ensure legal risks are identified and managed effectively.
• Advise on New Zealand regulatory issues as they arise across the company’s operations, ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation affecting the organisation’s diverse activities.
• Offer operational support by providing clear guidance on product structuring and sales-related legal matters within fast-moving commercial environments.
• Contribute to the development of risk frameworks by validating contract terms against commercial norms and industry standards.
• Engage with regulators, industry associations, and consumer advocacy bodies as required to represent the organisation’s interests effectively.

What you bring:

• A minimum of 8 years (PQE), ideally gained within financial services or similar regulated industries where high standards of compliance are essential.
• Demonstrated prior experience working in-house for a major corporation or within a reputable law firm handling sophisticated enterprise deals from inception through execution.
• Extensive background negotiating complex commercial contracts coupled with proven ability to provide strategic direction on both day-to-day operational matters and long-term projects.
• Deep understanding of data privacy laws as well as competition & consumer law; able to translate these into practical advice aligned with business needs.
• Proficiency in balancing business objectives with legal requirements by structuring deals that reflect both risk frameworks and industry best practices.
• Track record of engaging constructively with regulators, industry associations or consumer advocacy groups on behalf of previous employers or clients.
