Commercial Legal Counsel

The team is seeking a 6 PQE Commercial Legal Counsel to join their team in Auckland. You will work closely with senior colleagues and contribute to the ongoing development of junior team members, all while enjoying flexible working arrangements. What you'll do:
- Provide strategic and pragmatic legal advice on a wide variety of business issues and projects, with a particular focus on commercial contracts, contract drafting and negotiation.
- Advise on IT and digital matters including privacy compliance, marketing campaigns, brand management, and climate-related legal issues.
- Report into Principal Legal Counsel and work closely with Privacy Officer as well as the Contracts Manager to ensure seamless delivery of legal services.
- Assist in nurturing junior team members by sharing knowledge and supporting their professional growth within the team.
- Contribute to the creation of team strategy and participate actively in developing a positive team culture.
What you bring:
- Hold or be entitled to hold a New Zealand Law practising certificate.
- Minimum 6 years PQE gained from top-tier law firms or professional services firms or in-house roles covering generalist areas such as commercial contracts, contract drafting/negotiation, M&A, IT/digital law, privacy compliance, marketing campaigns, brand management, and climate-related issues.
- An understanding or interest in financial services.
- Demonstrate strong legal thinking skills coupled with exceptional drafting ability and meticulous attention to detail.
- Exhibit proven interpersonal skills capable of influencing stakeholders at all levels within the business environment.
- Possess demonstrable understanding of risk tolerance relevant to business operations.
- Self-motivation enabling you to tackle complex issues proactively while driving initiatives forward under pressure or ambiguity.
- Ability to balance commercial judgement with legal risk assessment when providing business options.
