Legal Compliance Specialist
We are seeking an experienced professional to take responsibility in shaping this state-owned enterprise’s overall legal compliance programme.

In this position, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping and maintaining a robust compliance programme across the organisation. You will provide guidance on key pieces of legislation, helping business units understand their obligations under laws such as the Privacy Act and other regulatory frameworks. You'll work closely with stakeholders to explain why compliance matters, identify areas of non-compliance, and guide teams toward practical solutions.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing and managing compliance programmes, including building and maintaining obligation registers, and having oversight of how it is assessed, reported, and implemented.
- Providing clear, pragmatic advice to business units on compliance matters, including legal compliance advice.
- Collaborating with teams to uplift capability by creating learning modules, delivering training, and empowering others to take ownership of compliance processes.
- Offering practical solutions that align with organisational goals.
There are a range of benefits on offer in addition to salary. Flexible working arrangements will be considered including full-time or part-time. Wellington is the preferred location, but Christchurch or Auckland will be considered for the right person.
About you | Mōhou ake
- 8+ years’ experience including some of that experience acquired in either a hybrid legal/compliance role, or a dedicated compliance position.
- A law degree.
- Experience with compliance programmes, including tools like obligation registers and resources such as LexisNexis.
- The ability to connect with stakeholders across the business, translating complex requirements into actionable steps.
- A pragmatic approach.
- Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills.
