Senior Solicitor
This is a Crown entity and an independent regulator with diverse statutory functions.
The opportunity | Te tūranga
As a senior in the team, you will work alongside a number of other excellent lawyers to provide high quality, timely, accurate, and solution-focused legal advice on matters related to the organisation’s statutory functions.
Your responsibilities will include undertaking a variety of legislative and regulatory work and you may also get involved in some litigation management and commercial work. Depending on your background your responsibilities could include:
- Statutory interpretation.
- Advising on the exercise of statutory functions and on the development of Government policy and legislative actions.
- Advising on the organisation’s corporate obligations, policies and processes (such as health and safety, privacy, OIA, delegations, procurement, and legislative
- compliance).
- Advising on governance matters.
- Advising on the management of litigation, including providing instruction to external counsel.
- Reviewing and assisting with the preparation and negotiation of commercial agreements.
- Identifying, advising on and assisting with managing legal risks (including the wider Crown legal risk).
- Providing legal training to staff, including the Board, where appropriate.
- Supervising and mentoring solicitors in the team.
About you | Mōhou ake
- Minimum 5+ years of legal post-qualification experience.
- Public law experience.
- Litigation/ litigation management and/or commercial experience will be a bonus but is not essential.
- Proven ability to handle competing priorities and tight timeframes.
- A team player and excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to provide clear, practical, and timely advice in complex and evolving contexts.
- Strong problem solving skills.
- Law degree and a New Zealand practising certificate, or ability to obtain one promptly.

The salary range is $106,532 - $159,798 per annum (midpoint $133,165).
