Senior Solicitor

About the role | Mō tēnei tūranga
As a Senior Solicitor in this in-house legal team you will be responsible for providing legal and commercial advice across various areas of law including scheme management, corporate affairs, commercial transactions or litigation. You will partner closely with internal stakeholders to identify potential legal issues, oversee external counsel on complex cases and ensure compliance with all relevant legislation.
- Deliver timely and effective specialist legal services across scheme, corporate, commercial or litigation matters.
- Manage and oversee the delivery and performance of external legal representation for complex or significant cases.
- Provide professional leadership, coaching, and mentoring to in-house lawyers to foster their development.
- Identify needs for legal services across the organisation and communicate these effectively within the team to inform strategies, processes, and resource allocation.
- Work within assurance frameworks to ensure risks are managed effectively while strengthening safety culture through role modelling health and safety best practice.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- LLB qualification with current New Zealand practising certificate or eligibility to hold one is essential for this position.
- 5-10 PQE with strong expertise in commercial or insurance law relevant to the role’s focus areas.
- Demonstrated knowledge of relevant legislation, governance structures, policies specific to the sector.
- IT literacy including document management systems is ideal but not mandatory.
- Experience briefing senior management on complex legal matters.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement litigation strategies tailored to organisational needs.
- Proven performance applying Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles for designing policies, systems, processes; sound understanding demonstrated leadership in this area.
