Cyber Security Lawyer (Associate to Special Counsel)

A fast-growing law firm in Auckland is seeking a Cyber Security Law Associate, Senior Associate or Special Counsel to join their specialist First Response Team. By joining this team, you will be at the forefront of some of the most interesting and complex cyber incidents, data breaches, and digital crises across New Zealand. You will have the opportunity to work alongside senior leaders who provide top-tier training and support and go beyond the culture of a traditional law firm. What you'll do:

• Support or lead frontline incident response matters by collaborating closely with key stakeholders and internal teams to manage complex cyber security events.
• Contribute to resolving cyber incidents and data breaches by providing clear guidance on regulatory notification strategies and privacy event management.
• Engage in crisis response activities including government engagement and stakeholder management to ensure effective communication during digital emergencies.
• Participate in post-incident remediation efforts focused on risk mitigation and organisational resilience initiatives that strengthen client defences.
• Manage client relationships with empathy and professionalism while advising senior stakeholders on best practices for handling cyber threats.
• Work alongside experts in cyber intelligence, forensics, threat analysis, crisis communications, regulators, insurers, and global legal partners to deliver comprehensive solutions.

What you bring:

• LLB and a current NZ practising certificate (or the ability to obtain one).
• Experience in cyber law, privacy law is highly valued (Candidates with backgrounds in regulatory or technology matters are encouraged to apply).
• A motivation to move beyond traditional law firm thinking into dynamic advisory role with strong client-facing responsibilities.
• Sound judgement demonstrated in high-pressure environments where rapid decision-making is required.
• Ability to translate complex legal and technical issues into clear actionable advice for diverse audiences including clients and stakeholders.
