Save job

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Accountant to join NZS Group, one of New Zealand's largest and fastest-growing providers of scaffolding, formwork and related services.

This is a newly created role, reflecting the continued growth of the business and its commitment to strengthening the finance function. Reporting to the Financial Controller, you will play a key role in supporting the Group's financial reporting, compliance and operational finance activities while providing day-to-day leadership and coaching to the wider accounting team.

Working within a large multi-entity environment, you will take ownership of key month-end and year-end reporting responsibilities, partner with operational leaders across the country and contribute to the ongoing development of finance processes, systems and controls.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Senior Accountant looking to broaden their leadership experience while remaining technically hands-on within a growing national organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of the quality and delivery of month-end reporting and compliance across the Group.
  • Prepare and review journals, reconciliations, tax returns and supporting workpapers.
  • Review monthly financial results, investigate variances and ensure reporting accuracy across multiple entities.
  • Assist with consolidated reporting, intercompany accounting and month-end close processes.
  • Support the preparation of annual financial statements and coordinate year-end audit requirements.
  • Prepare and review GST, FBT and income tax calculations and ensure compliance with New Zealand reporting obligations.
  • Act as the primary reviewer for two accountants, providing coaching, mentoring and technical guidance to support their ongoing development.
  • Partner with branch administrators and operational leaders across New Zealand, providing practical accounting support and strengthening financial capability.
  • Identify opportunities to improve finance processes, reporting frameworks and internal controls.
  • Support the Financial Controller and CFO with budgeting, forecasting, business reporting and wider finance initiatives.

Key Requirements

  • CA or CPA qualified.
  • Strong experience in month-end and year-end financial reporting within a multi-entity environment.
  • Sound technical knowledge of New Zealand GST, FBT and income tax compliance.
  • Experience preparing or reviewing annual financial statements under NZ IFRS.
  • Exposure to consolidations, intercompany accounting and fixed asset accounting.
  • Previous experience reviewing, mentoring or coaching junior accountants.
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience using Xero or a similar ERP/accounting system.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to research and resolve technical accounting issues.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to build relationships across finance and operational teams.
  • A proactive, collaborative approach with strong organisational skills and a continuous improvement mindset.
