Data Infrastructure Engineer - Oracle (12 month contract)

What you'll do:
As a Data Infrastructure Engineer, you will play a central role in shaping the organisation’s data landscape. This contract role has a strong focus on enterprise data integration and requires proven hands-on expertise with Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) 19c. You will work closely with architects, engineers, and business stakeholders to support and enhance critical data integration platforms, ensuring reliable and scalable data movement across enterprise systems. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include developing and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines, optimising data processing performance, and applying strong data modelling principles to support enterprise reporting and analytics capabilities.
- Design and develop reliable systems for storing and processing both structured and unstructured data, ensuring adaptability to changing business requirements.
- Lead and support enterprise data integration initiatives using Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) 19c across large-scale environments.
- Develop, maintain, and optimise ODI mappings, packages, procedures, and load plans to support critical business and analytics functions.
- Collaborate closely with architects and application engineers to align technical solutions with established standards and product roadmaps.
- Monitor data platforms proactively to identify potential issues, implementing updates and improvements that enhance performance and efficiency.
- Establish robust backup and recovery processes to safeguard information assets, ensuring data integrity and availability at all times.
- Implement policies and standards for data security and governance, working together with internal teams to maintain accuracy and compliance.
- Translate complex business requirements into accessible technical solutions by communicating effectively with stakeholders from various backgrounds.
- Conduct regular reviews of system performance, optimising databases and ODI processes for scalability, reliability, and operational efficiency.
- Utilise cloud technologies such as Azure or AWS to build scalable compute services that support enterprise-level applications.
- Develop and automate data pipelines using Python or Java, improving efficiency and supporting large-scale analytics and integration processes.
- Apply Kimball data modelling methodologies to design efficient and scalable data warehouse solutions.
- Build and nurture effective relationships within the organisation as well as across professional networks, supporting communal goals through shared expertise.
What you bring:
To excel as a Data Infrastructure Engineer in Wellington, you will bring strong experience working within enterprise data environments, with a particular emphasis on Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) 19c. You will have a proven background delivering and supporting large-scale data integration solutions, alongside strong technical capability across data modelling, ETL/ELT development, and enterprise database platforms. Your experience designing scalable data architectures and implementing Kimball dimensional modelling methodologies will enable you to contribute effectively to enterprise reporting and analytics initiatives.
- A tertiary degree in a relevant field or equivalent professional experience demonstrating commitment to ongoing learning and development.
- Current industry-recognised certifications or technical qualifications (such as Azure Engineer Associate) validating expertise in specific tools or platforms.
- Strong hands-on commercial experience with Oracle Data Integrator (ODI) 19c is essential for this role.
- Demonstrated experience designing, developing, and supporting enterprise data integration and ETL/ELT solutions using ODI.
- Advanced knowledge of database systems including Oracle, SQL, and NoSQL technologies for efficient storage and retrieval of information.
- Familiarity with distributed computing frameworks like Apache Hadoop or Apache Spark for processing large-scale datasets.
- Experience utilising cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS for building scalable data storage and compute services.
- Strong programming and scripting capabilities using Python or Java, with experience automating and supporting enterprise data pipelines.
- Strong understanding of data modelling principles, including Kimball dimensional modelling methodologies and the ability to design efficient data architectures and schemas.
- Knowledge of data governance practices, privacy regulations, and implementation of appropriate security measures to protect sensitive information.
- Minimum five years’ experience consulting on design and support of data management systems within large complex organisations.
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to a wide range of audiences while building dependable relationships across teams.
