Legal and Compliance Manager
The Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Board (the Board) is responsible for regulating plumbers, gasfitters and drainlayers and Self-Contained Vehicles in Aotearoa. They register and licence practitioners, set minimum standards of competency, investigate complaints, and, where necessary, bring disciplinary proceedings and prosecutions.

Mō tēnei tūranga | About this role
Reporting to the Chief Executive, Aleyna Hall, your focus will be on people management. You will lead the Board’s audit and compliance functions and support delivery of the Board’s legal function, including successfully managing direct reports and leading or contributing to legal projects. You will also provide proactive and reactive legal advice as required which will include advice relating to the self-contained vehicles function, ensuring the Board follows its statutory decision-making processes, and assisting in legislative development including submissions on relevant pieces of legislation and regulations.
This is a small but highly motivated team who are passionate about achieving their regulatory mandate and embracing new ideas. Mōhou ake | About you
- 10+ years’ of relevant experience.
- Regulatory experience including advising on statutory obligations and decision-making processes.
- People management experience – you will either be an experienced people manager, or have acted in management positions and be ready to step up.
- Experience in setting up ways of working and processes in teams to support high performance.
- Exposure to risk, audit and/or compliance is a bonus, but not essential.
- Experience working for a regulator is also ideal, but not essential.
- Excellent relationship management, communication and problem-solving skills.
- Strong business and commercial acumen – we are looking for a strategic thinker.
- Developing knowledge and understanding of the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi tikanga and cultural safety.
- LLB and a current New Zealand practising certificate or ability to obtain one.
