This is an exciting opportunity to take on a leadership role within a high-performing organisation that plays a vital role in shaping New Zealand’s economic future through international investment. Invest New Zealand’s (Invest NZ) purpose is to increase the flow of international investment to support New Zealand’s long-term economic prosperity. They focus on securing strategically significant investments in sectors with the greatest potential impact on productivity and growth, alongside the effective implementation of the growth category of the Active Investor Plus (AIP) Visa scheme.

About this role | Mō tēnei tūranga

Reporting directly to the Chief Operations Officer, you will be responsible for the oversight of Invest NZ’s operational delivery of the AIP programme including but not limited to:

  • Managing workflow for managed funds and direct investment applications, providing advice on complex applications and external queries involving legal, regulatory, or policy interpretation.
  • Lead engagement with a diverse range of stakeholders to ensure effective delivery of the AIP programme.
  • Drive continuous improvement through process optimisation, quality assurance, and collateral updates.
  • Provide clear recommendations on complex matters related to AIP investments for decision-makers.
  • Deliver high-quality reporting to Board/Ministers and other stakeholders while ensuring strong governance and risk management practices.

The role is hands on as well as having strategic oversight. You will lead a small, dynamic and tightly connected team and apply your experience to drive meaningful change for New Zealand’s economy!

Flexible working arrangements will be considered and there is an option to be based in either Wellington or Auckland.

About you | Mōhou ake

  • 8 + years of relevant experience – we will consider all levels of seniority beyond that.
  • Financial services experience is crucial, but it will be a bonus if you have a strong understanding of funds management too.
  • An understanding of administrative law principles.
  • Legally qualified with experience working in-house or in private practice, in risk and compliance functions, investment operations, financial services regulation or similar areas.
  • A deep understanding of licensing regimes and/or regulatory frameworks ideally with experience managing legislative/regulatory change programmes end-to-end.
  • You are a problem solver; you thrive in fast-paced environments where you can manage complex workflows and competing priorities while maintaining an eye for detail and a love of good processes.
  • While you do not need to be an established leader, you must have a track record in coaching and mentoring others and a genuine desire to lead people.
  • Strategic, conceptual and critical thinking skills and strong analytical ability.
