About the Roles
We have multiple opportunities available for skilled Principal Policy Advisors, including both permanent and fixed-term roles.
These roles are based in Wellington.
As a Principal Policy Advisor, you will play a key role in shaping evidence-based policy that addresses complex issues and delivers impact. You’ll have the opportunity to work on a wide variety of projects spanning operational, legislative, regulatory, and strategic cross-government policy programmes.

What We’re Looking For
To succeed in this role, you will bring:
- Expert analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to produce high-quality policy advice under tight timeframes.
- Proven experience building strong relationships and influencing stakeholders across multiple settings.
- Leadership capabilities, including coaching and mentoring others while contributing as a collaborative team member.
- A deep understanding of the circumstances and issues facing diverse communities, including Māori, Pacific peoples, disabled populations, and other key groups.
- Enthusiasm, adaptability, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline.
- Significant (5+ years) experience in central government policy is essential.
