Senior Financial Accountant
Reporting to the Financial Controller, this is a broad and influential role responsible for delivering high-quality financial reporting, technical accounting, taxation, and financial control across the organisation.
What You'll Be Doing
Financial Reporting & Control
- Lead the month-end close process and ensure timely, accurate financial reporting.
- Prepare monthly management reporting and finance packs.
- Lead the preparation of half-year and annual financial statements in accordance with NZ IFRS and NZX requirements.
- Coordinate with external auditors and support audit delivery.
- Prepare technical accounting papers and assess the impact of new accounting standards.
- Assist with Board and Audit & Risk Committee reporting.
Business Partnering
- Act as a trusted finance advisor to business leaders and budget holders.
- Support strategic decision-making through financial analysis and recommendations.
- Challenge assumptions and identify risks and opportunities.
- Translate complex financial information into practical business insights.
Data, Analytics & Continuous Improvement
- Support the development of reporting and dashboards, including Power BI.
- Perform variance analysis, trend reporting, and forecasting.
- Leverage AI and automation tools to improve efficiency and reporting quality.
- Identify and implement finance process improvements.
Tax & Budgeting
- Support tax compliance, tax calculations, and annual return preparation in conjunction with external advisors.
- Contribute to annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting processes.
- Assist with treasury reporting and regulatory disclosures as required.
About You
To be successful, you'll bring:
- Chartered Accountant (or equivalent professional accounting qualification).
- Strong post-qualification experience gained in professional services and/or commercial environments.
- Proven expertise in NZ IFRS financial reporting and statutory reporting.
- Solid understanding of New Zealand taxation, including income tax and deferred tax.
- Advanced Excel skills and experience using Power BI.
- Exposure to AI and automation tools.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central would be advantageous
