Video interviews are becoming a popular recruitment tool across the public and private sector. Creating your CV snapshot can be daunting but practice makes perfect. Follow our tips to put your mind at ease and differentiate yourself against the competition.
- Dress yourself as you would for an interview. First impressions are important, so you want to be presented in a way that shows you have put in some effort.
- Make sure you have a clean, white background behind you. This kind of background won't detract from what you are saying.
- Set your cellphone, tablet or computer on a flat, stable surface. This will make for a more professional video profile.
Prepare your answers
When filming your video, it's important that you stay on track. Review the questions that are going to be asked and write down three bullet points of what you'd like to say. You will be less likely to forget some of the important points you'd like to make.
By preparing your answers, you will make the best use of the time you have available to complete the question. Some employers may not communicate how much time you'll have so try to keep your answers around 30 seconds long.
Show your personality
Employers want to get to know you better, so let your personality shine.
Answer your questions professionally but don't be afraid to show who you are. This makes for a much more engaging video.
