Azure Engineer (18 month contract)
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a supportive and collaborative setting, where your expertise will be valued as you help maintain, improve, and support mature Azure infrastructure with a strong focus on Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD). If you are passionate about cloud operations, eager to share your knowledge, and ready to join a dependable network of professionals, this is your chance to grow your skills while making a difference.
What you'll do:
As an Azure Engineer based in Wellington, you will immerse yourself in the daily management of mature enterprise cloud platforms. Your responsibilities will span operational support for both production and development environments, focusing particularly on Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) administration. You will troubleshoot user issues, manage profiles efficiently, deploy resources using best practices, and ensure that landing zones are maintained at optimal levels. Your role will also involve assisting with governance initiatives—ensuring policy compliance—and reviewing recommendations from Azure Advisor to drive continuous improvement. Security is paramount; you will support remediation activities aligned with industry benchmarks while monitoring deprecation notices to plan effective responses. By contributing to process refinement and collaborating closely with DevOps teams, vendors, and managed service partners, you will help deliver projects smoothly while maintaining business-as-usual operations. Success in this role requires a commitment to teamwork, dependability in operational tasks, sensitivity towards stakeholder needs, and enthusiasm for sharing knowledge within an inclusive environment.
What you bring:
The ideal candidate for the Azure Engineer position brings proven experience supporting Microsoft Azure environments within enterprise or government contexts. Your hands-on expertise administering AVD solutions enables you to resolve user issues efficiently while managing profiles seamlessly. You have deployed infrastructure using best practices for cloud operations—demonstrating understanding of governance frameworks like Azure Policy—and supported security initiatives aligned with industry benchmarks. Familiarity with monitoring tools such as Azure Monitor allows you to oversee operational health proactively. Exposure to Infrastructure as Code principles using Terraform or similar technologies enhances your ability to automate deployments; additional experience with ARM Templates or Bicep further strengthens your skillset. Knowledge of landing zones frameworks (Enterprise Scale / Cloud Adoption Framework), FSLogix integration, Entra ID (Azure AD), or file storage solutions like Azure Files provides added depth. Your awareness of cost management strategies supports efficient resource allocation. Above all, your troubleshooting abilities are matched by clear communication skills that foster trust among stakeholders. You thrive when collaborating within diverse teams—balancing independence with interdependence—and bring enthusiasm for sharing knowledge that contributes positively to communal growth.
