PR and Communications Executive

Save job

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a PR and Communications Executive to join a highly respected agency in Auckland, where your passion for storytelling and relationship-building will be at the heart of everything you do. This role offers the chance to work on a diverse portfolio of clients, delivering impactful public relations solutions while enjoying a supportive and collaborative team environment.

What you'll do:

As a PR and Communications Executive based in Auckland, you will immerse yourself in the world of public relations by managing a range of client accounts with professionalism and care.

Your days will be filled with meaningful interactions—whether you are liaising directly with clients about ongoing projects, collaborating with colleagues on campaign strategy, or coaching junior team members.

You will be responsible for ensuring that every project runs smoothly from start to finish: this means keeping track of budgets, timelines, documentation requirements, and financial targets while always striving to exceed client expectations. Your ability to spot new business opportunities within existing accounts will be valued as you help drive growth for both your clients and the agency. By fostering strong relationships internally and externally, you will contribute significantly to the success of integrated campaigns that make a real difference.

This role is ideal if you thrive in an environment where no two days are the same and where your organisational skills, attention to detail, and interpersonal abilities can truly shine.

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients on day-to-day matters related to current public relations projects or client portfolios, ensuring clear communication and understanding of project goals.
  • Take full responsibility for individual client projects from inception through delivery, managing expectations in line with agreed service levels, budgets, and timelines.
  • Collaborate closely with Account Directors to provide valuable input into campaign strategies that are market-relevant and tailored to each client's needs.
  • Proactively identify potential issues or challenges within projects, keeping senior team members informed and seeking guidance when necessary to ensure smooth delivery.
  • Utilise internal work systems effectively for scheduling, documentation, job tracking, timesheet completion, expense logging, and maintaining accurate account records.
  • Identify opportunities for additional PR activities or integrated 360° programmes within existing accounts by leveraging your understanding of client businesses.
  • Monitor financial performance of assigned projects by tracking margins, revenue, costs, and ensuring all billing processes are completed accurately and on time.
  • Produce clear and concise cost estimates for clients while addressing any queries promptly or escalating them appropriately within the team.
  • Coach Account Executives by providing guidance on their responsibilities and supporting their professional development within the agency structure.
  • Foster collaboration across all agency teams to ensure seamless delivery of integrated campaigns that meet both client objectives and agency standards.

What you bring:

To excel as a PR and Communications Executive in this Auckland-based agency setting, your background should reflect hands-on experience managing client relationships within public relations or communications environments. Your expertise spans not only traditional PR tactics but also digital channels—enabling you to develop holistic strategies that resonate with diverse audiences.

You bring an empathetic approach when working alongside colleagues or guiding junior team members; your interpersonal skills create an atmosphere where everyone feels supported. Your attention to detail ensures nothing slips through the cracks—be it budget tracking or meeting tight deadlines—while your enthusiasm for uncovering new business opportunities keeps both clients satisfied and accounts growing.

Above all else, your commitment to delivering high-quality work shines through every interaction: whether drafting press releases that capture headlines or presenting thoughtful recommendations during campaign planning sessions.

  • A degree or equivalent experience in public relations consultancy, in-house communications or journalism provides a solid foundation for this role.
  • At least two years’ experience in client service within communications or public relations ensures you understand the nuances of agency life.
  • Demonstrated technical proficiency in core PR skills such as writing for various media channels, developing plans and recommendations, event management basics, sponsorships, marketing communications (including digital), promotions, advertising, web/interactive content creation.
  • Proven ability to craft compelling stories for news media outlets while maintaining strong media contacts across relevant sectors.
  • A broad understanding of strategic communications planning enables you to contribute meaningfully to campaign development discussions.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills allow you to build rapport with clients at all levels—from brand managers through product managers to marketing leads—and present ideas clearly.
  • Strong relationship-building capabilities foster trust both internally among colleagues and externally with clients.
  • A collaborative approach ensures effective teamwork across departments while supporting junior staff through coaching or mentoring initiatives.
  • Solid business acumen helps you monitor project finances closely—tracking costs against budgets—and ensures timely billing processes are followed meticulously.
  • A positive attitude towards continuous learning means you embrace feedback constructively while seeking out opportunities for personal growth.
