Senior Bridge Engineer

This Senior Bridge Engineer is a client-facing role, you’ll partner with councils and asset owners to develop maintenance plans, upgrade programmes, climate resilience initiatives, and long-term asset strategies. You’ll connect clients, contractors, designers, and engineers - making decisions, leading workstreams, and manage bridge portfolios, oversee risk and budgets, and mentor others while driving real impact.

What you’ll be doing

As a Senior Bridge Engineer, you will sit at the centre of engineering, data, and decision-making.

• Assess bridge condition and performance using inspection data
• Develop maintenance plans, upgrade programmes, and long-term asset strategies
• Lead initiatives to improve climate resilience and network reliability
• Prioritise investment across assets (balancing risk, cost, and performance)
• Provide advice on repair vs strengthening vs replacement decisions
• Manage programmes of work, ensuring delivery across time, cost, and quality
• Work closely with clients (NZTA, councils), contractors, designers, and engineers - connecting everything

What you’ll bring

• 5+ years’ experience in bridge or structural engineering
• Strong exposure to asset management / lifecycle thinking
• Understanding of how bridges behave, degrade, and fail
• Experience working with inspection data and asset systems
• Proven ability to make commercial and risk-based decisions
• Confident communicator - able to influence clients and stakeholders
• Experience within a New Zealand Consultancy environment
• Experience leading projects or mentoring others
