Assistant Accountant / Accountant

This role offers you the chance to work across multiple business entities, providing essential financial expertise and assistance. The position promises variety in your day-to-day tasks, from managing accounts payable and receivable to preparing monthly reports and supporting payroll processes.

Key Responsibilities:

As an Assistant Accountant, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the finance function across multiple business units. Your days will be filled with a blend of responsibilities such as:

  • Manage end-to-end accounts payable processes for several business entities, ensuring timely processing of invoices through to payment completion.
  • Oversee accounts receivable functions by generating invoices, tracking receipts, allocating payments accurately, and maintaining up-to-date records.
  • Support payroll administration for company-owned stores and the manufacturing operation, ensuring accuracy and compliance with relevant policies.
  • Prepare detailed reconciliations on all corporate bank accounts to maintain financial integrity across the group.
  • Post monthly journals such as accruals and stock take adjustments to ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Compile monthly Profit & Loss statements along with insightful commentary for senior management review.
  • Conduct balance sheet substantiation reconciliations every six months to support robust financial controls.
  • Assist with year-end and interim external audit requests by providing necessary documentation and responding to queries promptly.
  • Collaborate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Adapt quickly to changing priorities during peak periods such as month-end or year-end while maintaining high standards of accuracy.

Key Requirements:

To excel as an Assistant Accountant in this role, you will bring:

  • Previous experience in either accounts payable or accounts receivable roles within a commercial environment is essential for success in this position.
  • A formal accounting qualification or active progress towards one is preferred but not mandatory if you can demonstrate strong practical experience.
  • Exceptional organisational skills are required to manage multiple priorities efficiently during peak periods such as month-end or year-end close.
  • The ability to work both independently when needed and collaboratively within a team is crucial for delivering consistent results.
  • A high level of trustworthiness combined with respect for others ensures you build positive relationships across all levels of the organisation.
  • Empathy towards colleagues and stakeholders helps foster a supportive workplace culture where everyone feels valued.
  • A genuine passion for your work brings positive energy into the team environment every day.
  • Confidence in your abilities - balanced by humility - enables you to take ownership of tasks
  • Experience using XERO accounting software is highly desirable
  • Familiarity with Smartly or Deputy payroll systems would be beneficial but not essential.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (especially Excel) supports effective data analysis and reporting.
