Assistant Accountant / Accountant

Key Responsibilities:
As an Assistant Accountant, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the finance function across multiple business units. Your days will be filled with a blend of responsibilities such as:
- Manage end-to-end accounts payable processes for several business entities, ensuring timely processing of invoices through to payment completion.
- Oversee accounts receivable functions by generating invoices, tracking receipts, allocating payments accurately, and maintaining up-to-date records.
- Support payroll administration for company-owned stores and the manufacturing operation, ensuring accuracy and compliance with relevant policies.
- Prepare detailed reconciliations on all corporate bank accounts to maintain financial integrity across the group.
- Post monthly journals such as accruals and stock take adjustments to ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Compile monthly Profit & Loss statements along with insightful commentary for senior management review.
- Conduct balance sheet substantiation reconciliations every six months to support robust financial controls.
- Assist with year-end and interim external audit requests by providing necessary documentation and responding to queries promptly.
- Collaborate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Adapt quickly to changing priorities during peak periods such as month-end or year-end while maintaining high standards of accuracy.
Key Requirements:
To excel as an Assistant Accountant in this role, you will bring:
- Previous experience in either accounts payable or accounts receivable roles within a commercial environment is essential for success in this position.
- A formal accounting qualification or active progress towards one is preferred but not mandatory if you can demonstrate strong practical experience.
- Exceptional organisational skills are required to manage multiple priorities efficiently during peak periods such as month-end or year-end close.
- The ability to work both independently when needed and collaboratively within a team is crucial for delivering consistent results.
- A high level of trustworthiness combined with respect for others ensures you build positive relationships across all levels of the organisation.

- Experience using XERO accounting software is highly desirable
- Familiarity with Smartly or Deputy payroll systems would be beneficial but not essential.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (especially Excel) supports effective data analysis and reporting.
