Senior Full Stack Developer (React / Node.js & Kotlin or Java)

We're partnering with a leading New Zealand organisation to find an experienced Senior Full Stack Developer with strengths in the front end preferred for an exciting 12-month contract. You'll join a collaborative team responsible for delivering and evolving large-scale payment applications that support thousands of customers every day.

About the Role:

You'll play a key role in designing, developing and delivering complex full stack solutions while helping shape the future direction of a modern payments platform.

Working across React, Node.js and Kotlin/Java services, you'll collaborate closely with engineers, QA and product teams to deliver secure, scalable and reliable applications.

Key responsibilities include:

• Design, develop and deliver end-to-end full stack features
• Build modern APIs and integration services using Kotlin/Java and Spring Boot
• Develop responsive frontend applications using React and Node.js
• Contribute to technical design decisions and engineering best practices
• Support production systems, troubleshoot issues and improve platform reliability
• Mentor team members and contribute to a collaborative engineering culture
• Work across cloud and event-driven architectures as the platform evolves

About You:

You'll be an experienced software engineer who enjoys solving complex technical problems and working in modern engineering environments.

Ideally you'll bring:

• 7+ years' software engineering experience
• Strong React and Node.js development experience (preferred)
• Commercial experience with Java and/or Kotlin (Kotlin preferred)
• Spring Boot experience building scalable APIs and microservices
• Previous banking or payments industry experience
• Integration experience across APIs, MQ or Kafka/event-driven systems
• Experience with AWS, OpenShift or other cloud platforms
• Knowledge of PostgreSQL and/or DB2
• CI/CD experience using Jenkins, Spinnaker or similar tools
• Strong understanding of testing, code quality and engineering best practices
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work across cross-functional teams
