Recruitment scams targeting job seekers in New Zealand

We would like to bring to your attention an unfortunate increase in recruitment scams targeting individuals across the Asia Pacific region. To protect yourself, it's important to stay vigilant and be aware of potential scams.

Warning signs of potential recruitment scams:

·       Unsolicited job offers: Be cautious of emails, messages, or phone calls promising guaranteed income or job placements without proper vetting. Always verify the details and thoroughly evaluate the legitimacy of the offer.

·       Impersonation: Scammers may pose as Robert Walters consultants on social media or job boards. Watch for incomplete profiles, suspicious photos, limited activity, or missing contact details.

·       Email authenticity: Legitimate Robert Walters consultants will always contact you via official email (e.g., name.surname@robertwalters.co.nz). If in doubt, we recommend requesting an email from their Robert Walters email address.

·       Too-good-to-be-true offers: Be wary of promises of quick, easy money or high returns with minimal effort. Genuine job offers require commitment and effort.

·       Requests for fees or personal information: Be cautious if you're asked for upfront payments or to share personal details in exchange for job information or materials. Robert Walters consultants will never request payments or personal information up front.

·       Money transfers: If you're asked to move money for someone else, this could indicate involvement in illegal activity like money laundering.

Please note that Robert Walters will never request any form of direct payment from candidates, and our consultants will exclusively communicate using official Robert Walters email addresses, such as name.surname@robertwalters.co.nz.

If you suspect you've been targeted by a scam, we strongly encourage you to report the issue to CERT NZ (Computer Emergency Response Team), who specialise in addressing such incidents.

Stay safe, and always exercise caution when sharing personal information or responding to job offers.
