Civil Project Manager

What you'll do:
As a Civil Project Manager based in Hawke's Bay, you will take ownership of multiple civil construction projects from planning through execution. Your day-to-day activities will involve close collaboration with both internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure every aspect of the project runs smoothly. You will be responsible for developing robust schedules that meet deadlines without compromising on quality or safety.
- Oversee the full lifecycle of civil projects valued up to $5 million, ensuring all deliverables are met within agreed timeframes, budgets, and quality standards.
- Lead, mentor, and support a skilled project team by fostering an inclusive environment that encourages knowledge sharing and professional growth among members.
- Develop detailed project plans and schedules that align with client requirements while proactively identifying risks and implementing effective mitigation strategies.
- Ensure strict compliance with health and safety regulations at every stage of the project by promoting best practices among all workers involved.
- Manage contractual obligations, financial reporting, cost control measures, and pricing variations to maintain transparency and accountability throughout each project.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation including accurate project reports and updates to keep stakeholders informed of progress at all times.
- Coordinate closely with clients and internal production teams to ensure seamless communication and smooth delivery of each project milestone.
- Prepare future tenders, quotes, and submissions by collaborating with relevant departments to secure new business opportunities.
- Participate actively in management meetings as well as toolbox talks to contribute insights that enhance operational efficiency.
- Travel occasionally to various project sites as required based on location demands.
What you bring:
As a Civil Project Manager, you will bring extensive hands-on experience managing complex civil construction projects from start to finish. Your background should include working under recognised contract standards such as NZ3910 or NZ3916 while demonstrating advanced proficiency in cost management techniques. You will have developed a thorough understanding of deep foundation systems, piling methods, structural engineering principles, and the use of modern construction equipment. Your approach is highly organised; you thrive when balancing competing priorities without losing sight of critical details.
- At least 5 years’ proven experience as a Project Manager within the civil construction sector managing large-scale infrastructure works.
- Comprehensive understanding of NZ3910 and NZ3916 contract standards along with demonstrated expertise in applying these frameworks effectively.
- Advanced skills in cost control processes including financial reporting, budget management, and handling pricing variations for complex projects.
- In-depth technical knowledge relating to deep foundation systems, piling operations, structural works, and associated construction methodologies.
- Familiarity with modern construction procedures as well as safe operation of specialised equipment used on-site.
- Exceptional organisational abilities enabling you to manage multiple priorities simultaneously while maintaining meticulous attention to detail.
- Outstanding verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills which allow you to build rapport with diverse teams and influence outcomes positively.
- A strong commitment to health and safety best practices coupled with practical experience implementing these standards across varied environments.
- Demonstrated capability in mentoring colleagues - providing guidance that supports both individual development and overall team performance.
- A valid New Zealand driver’s licence along with eligibility to work legally within New Zealand.
