Do you have a strong understanding of export development, market analysis, and relationship building? If so, we invite you to join Pacific Trade Invest New Zealand (PTI NZ) as a Business Development Executive.

About Us

Pacific Trade Invest New Zealand is a not-for-profit regional agency funded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Trade as part of the New Zealand Government’s Pacific Aid Programme. We are dedicated to supporting small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) from 16 Pacific Island countries and territories to build their export capabilities, connect with New Zealand importers, and promote investment opportunities. Role Purpose

As a Business Development Executive, you will play a key role in helping Pacific Island companies export their goods and services to New Zealand. You will work closely with the Trade Development Manager and other team members to deliver PTI NZ’s strategic outputs. This hands-on role involves identifying export opportunities, facilitating trade connections, and supporting Pacific SMEs through various programmes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist Pacific exporters in building confidence and capability to enter the New Zealand market.
  • Create new export opportunities for Pacific businesses.

  • Develop relationships with New Zealand companies, councils, government agencies, and other entities to foster business opportunities in the Pacific.
  • Conduct export capability assessments and prepare data sets to inform trade programmes.
  • Contribute to trade workplans, monthly reports, and event organisation (e.g., Auckland Food Show, Oceans of Flavours).
  • Manage trade-related projects such as Market Insights reports and Freight Support Programmes.
  • Organise in-country missions, workshops, expos, buyer events, and webinars.
  • Provide guidance on market entry strategies, regulatory requirements, branding, and positioning for Pacific exporters.

Core Technical Skills

  • Market Analysis & Research: Experience in analysing trade data, demand trends, competitor landscapes; familiarity with tariffs and regulatory barriers; proficiency in Excel, CRM systems, and market intelligence platforms.
  • Trade Facilitation: At least 6 years’ experience in logistics, customs regulations, or supply chain management; expertise in lead generation, pipeline management, B2B/B2C coordination; knowledge of Pacific cultures and business etiquette.
  • Project Management: Proven ability to manage trade missions/events; track outcomes; prepare annual work plans and budgets.
  • Digital & Data Skills: Proficiency in CRM platforms, data analysis tools, digital marketing/e-commerce platforms; experience with online export channels (e.g., B2B marketplaces).

Key Attributes

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for diverse audiences.
  • Ability to present complex trade insights simply and effectively.
  • Demonstrated project management experience in multicultural environments.
  • High level of initiative, problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and discretion when handling confidential information.
  • Sensitivity to local economic/social contexts and an understanding of Pacific cultures.

What We Offer

This role offers an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact by supporting Pacific Island businesses to succeed in the New Zealand market. You’ll be part of a dynamic team working across multiple markets while contributing to sustainable economic growth in the Blue Pacific region.
