Senior Treasury Accountant

This is a rare senior accounting position in an outstanding NZX listed business, we are looking for a Senior Treasury Accountant from back-office treasury. You will play a pivotal role in overseeing treasury operations, providing incisive financial analysis, and upholding exemplary standards in hedge accounting, all while supporting the organisation through significant periods of transformation and advancement.

What you'll do:

In the capacity of Senior Treasury Accountant, you will be entrusted with responsibilities at the very heart of this organisation’s financial operations. Your remit will encompass managing intricate treasury transactions with utmost diligence while ensuring that hedge accounting practices maintain earnings stability. You will collaborate thoughtfully with colleagues across various departments, providing timely insights that inform prudent business decisions. Beyond technical duties such as preparing forecasts or authorising payments, you will serve as a mentor, imparting your expertise generously to foster growth among peers. Your clear communication style will establish you as a trusted advisor on matters ranging from new funding instruments to complex audit queries. Success in this role is defined by your dedication to accuracy, advocacy for positive change, cultivation of strong relationships throughout the business, and your consistent demonstration of professionalism.

  • Ensure the timely and accurate completion of monthly accounting for treasury transactions, including foreign exchange and debt activities, whilst implementing procedural enhancements as necessary.
    • Supervise the execution of hedging strategies such as foreign exchange, fuel, and interest rate hedges by maintaining thorough documentation and conducting rigorous hedge relationship testing.
  • Prepare monthly outlooks, quarterly forecasts, annual budgets, and deliver detailed analyses of variances against these benchmarks to underpin the function’s objectives.
  • Monitor adherence to Treasury Policy by preparing monthly compliance reports, performing balance sheet reconciliations, and authorising treasury payments in accordance with policy requirements.
  • Provide authoritative advice on treasury matters including hedging strategies and new funding instruments while supporting external audit processes and statutory reporting obligations.
  • Lead the delivery of treasury-related projects by advancing systems and processes, facilitating system upgrades (including Quantum and Reval), and automating manual procedures wherever feasible.
  • Serve as a business partner by offering analytical support to front office treasury, corporate finance, and group finance teams to enable informed decision making.
  • Mentor and guide members of the treasury accounting team to encourage professional development and promote best practice across the group.
  • Engage constructively with stakeholders at all levels, internal teams such as senior finance specialists, chapter leads, corporate finance, and external parties including auditors to ensure seamless information flow.
  • Foster an open communication culture by responding promptly to queries from internal teams or external auditors regarding treasury transactions or financial statement disclosures.

What you bring:
To excel as a Senior Treasury Accountant, you will possess an impressive record working in multi-national/international complex corporate businesses within the back-office treasury functions, where meticulous attention to detail is paramount. Your professional journey will have afforded you substantial exposure to financial and treasury accounting, potentially encompassing foreign exchange management or mastery of hedge accounting.

  • A tertiary qualification in Finance accompanied by Chartered Accountant membership (or equivalent) from a recognised professional body is essential for this appointment.
  • A minimum of six years’ experience in financial, back office treasury accounting focused roles with at least three years specifically dedicated to treasury accounting is required for success in this position.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute constructively as part of a management team within complex organisational environments is highly valued.
  • Exceptional technical proficiency in accounting processes combined with advanced analytical capabilities is necessary for this role.
  • Proven experience positively influencing stakeholders through exemplary communication skills, both verbal and written, is crucial for fostering trust across teams.
  • Notable leadership qualities evidenced through mentoring or coaching others within finance functions are important attributes sought after for this position.
  • Commitment to teamwork is essential, you should take pleasure in sharing information openly while contributing ideas that enhance collective performance.
  • The ability to build rapport swiftly with both internal colleagues (across multiple departments) and external partners (such as auditors) is vital for effective collaboration.
